Dhaka, 8August 2019: Robi and ICMAB have signed a MoU with a view to collaborate for enhancing the knowledge and skills of students of ICMAB in the latest digital technologies. Robi’s Chief Enterprise Business officer, Mr. Md. Adil Hossain and ICMAB’s Director, Mr. Nazmus Salehin recently signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations at the Robi Corporate office located in Gulshan. Robi’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, ICMAB’s President Mr. M. Abul Kalam Mazumdar FCMA, Vice President Mr. Arif Khan FCMA, Council Member Mr. Mohammed Salim FCMA, along with high officials from Robi and ICMAB were present on the occasion.

Under the agreement, Robi will set up a state-of-the-art ‘Innovation Lab’ in the ICMAB campus. Key focus of the Lab will be to introduce the latest developments in data analytics, block chain, Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for the students of ICMAB. Besides, the Lab will facilitate the students to come up with innovative digital business ideas to address the problems faced by the companies. In order to make the best use of the lab facilities, ICMAB has decided to recognize the time spent by the students for learning, project or research work in connection to the usage of the lab facilities as credit hours. Students successfully completing the assigned tasks from this lab will be given professional certificates. In addition to the setting up of the innovation lab, Robi and ICMAB will explore ways of introducing digital solution to modernize the Institute.

The BSEC Chairman appreciated ICMAB for their contribution in the business and industrial sectors in the country. He also assured all possible help and assistance for the development for enhancement of professional bondage between ICMAB and BSEC.

ICMAB President updated the honorable Secretary about the overall affairs of the Institute and particularly about the development issues of CMA profession. He also sought help of the Secretary for further development of ICMAB.

The Secretary highly appreciated the role of the CMAs in the economic development of the country and assured to provide full co-operation for the development of CMA profession.

The ICMAB President apprised the Secretary about the role of Cost and Management Accountants in enterprise management, cost control, decision making and performance evaluation of business and industrial sectors. Besides the discussion on the matters of mutual professional interest, President ICMAB also explained about the benefit of Cost Audit and its different aspects. He also pointed out that it helps improve performance and production efficiencies by detecting deviations from standards, and reasons of visible and invisible losses, efficiencies, wastages etc. He also urged upon the need for implementing Cost Audit in different Sectors, in accordance with the decision of the government published through Gazette notification.

The Secretary gave the assurance of implementing the decision of the government with regards to Cost Audit. He also sought support of ICMAB to make its sick industries profitable.

Mr. M. Abul Kalam Mazumdar FCMA has been elected President of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) for the year 2019.

The Council of the Institute in its meeting held on 04 March 2019 has also unanimously

elected Mr. Arif Khan FCMA and Mr. Jamal Ahmed Choudhury FCMA as Vice-Presidents, Mr. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA as Secretary and Prof. Dr. Swapan Kumar Bala FCMA as Treasurer of the Institute.

Apart from being Fellow of the Institute Mr. Mazumdar did MBA from Institute of Business Administration, Dhaka University and he is also Certified Management Consultant (CMC) from Institute of Certified Management Consultants (ICMC), Australia. He also has a diploma with distinction on Managerial Control and Management Information Systems from Netherlands. 

Mr. Mazumdar was also the President of the Institute in the year 2000, Vice President for the years 1996, 1997 and 2018, Secretary for the years 1994 & 1995 and Treasurer for the year 1993. After qualifying as Cost and Management Accountant in 1984 Mr. Mazumdar played active role for formation of Dhaka regional council of the Institute, Dhaka Branch Council (DBC). He was the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer of the Dhaka Branch Council (DBC) during the years 1989, 1987 and 1986 respectively. In his initiative the Institute could so far issue 23 Cost Accounting Standards, which is pre-requisite Cost Accounting and Cost Audit. For his endeavours the implementation of Cost Audit has taken a new shape. He contributed for the Institute’s journal, The Cost and Management, as Editor and Associate Editor for more than a decade. He is the author of a number of local and international seminar, conference and research papers and he has few international publications to his credit.

Mr. Arif Khan served the ICMAB as President in 2016. Mr. Arif Khan brings more than 27 years of management experience to IDLC having served in various prestigious local, multinational and government organizations in the financial services sector. Mr. Khan most recently served as a Commissioner of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) in a 5 year stint and has been widely acclaimed for his role in the development of the capital market of Bangladesh. Mr. Khan holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University. He also obtained a Master of Commerce degree in Finance and Banking from Dhaka University.

Mr. Jamal Ahmed Choudhury FCMA served the ICMAB as President in 2017. He was also the Chairman (2005) of Dhaka Branch Council and Member of the National Council (2010-2013).He is the Executive Director, Accounts & Finance, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd. - a leading Pharmaceutical industry in the country. He obtained his post-graduation in Accounting from the University of Dhaka and MBA from IBA.

Mr. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA is currently working as Deputy Secretary in Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Before this, he worked in Income Tax Administration for about 22 years in home and abroad.

Prof. Dr. Swapan Kumar Bala FCMA has been serving as Commissioner of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC). He worked as the Managing Director of Dhaka Stock Exchange Limited. By profession he is a Professor of Dhaka University.

 

A delegation of ICMAB headed by its President Mr. M. Abul Kalam Mazumdar FCMA called on Kazi M. Aminul Islam, Executive Chairman, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) at his office on April 23, 2019.

The ICMAB President apprised the Executive Chairman, BIDA about the role of Cost and Management Accountants in enterprise management, cost control and performance evaluation of business and industrial undertakings. He informed that ICMAB has got global standard academic curriculum. The Institute is producing highly skilled professional accountants to meet the demand for accounting expertise in the country. He also informed the BIDA Chairman that some companies are appointing foreign nationals in Accounting and Finance functions despite availability of local personnel in similar skills and expertise. The employment of foreign nationals, especially in Accounting and Finance functions is causing increased unemployment. He requested the BIDA Chairman to take necessary measures to stop appoint of overseas accountants to work in Bangladesh.

The Executive Chairman of BIDA emphasized on the role of the professional accountants in the economic development of the country. He assured his support for the development of the Cost and Management Accounting profession.
